TOBA TEK SINGH: Irrigation Employees Power Union (CBA) chairman Allah Bakhsh Sial Tuesday urged the authorities concerned to take steps to stop theft of sand from Jhang branch canal.
Addressing a press conference at Gojra, Sial said nothing is being done to prevent sand theft from Jhang branch canal as the canal is closed for the annual rotation.
He said irrigation employees were tortured by sand mafia when they tried to restrain them from lifting sand.
He said the irrigation officials had brought this thing in the notice of police but no action was taken.
He said canal magistrate Rana Muhammad Farooq raided on Tuesday and caught red handed two people of sand mafia identified as Siddiq, of Chak No 297 JB and Salamat Maseeh, of Chak No 354/JB. He said the accused were handed over to police. He demanded strict action against sand thieves.
REMAINS OF SEVEN DONKEYS FOUND: Locals told police that their seven donkeys were stolen from Chak 301/JB, Gojra.
Hanif, Yasir, Hafeez and Saif told Gojra Sadar police that their seven donkeys were stolen from outside of their houses and they found their remains from nearby fields. They said the thieves took meat and hides of the donkeys. The police are investigating.
