ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly will have its two sessions during next month. The first will be summoned on the requisition of the opposition members to take up the question of petrol shortage as only agenda item while the other will be summoned by President Mamnoon Hussain on 9th of the next month.
Parliamentary sources told The News here Tuesday that leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah has submitted requisition for holding National Assembly sitting for discussion on the shortage of petrol last week amid the peak days of scarcity of petrol.
The shortage of petrol has been overcome and its supply has become normal but the opposition is sticking to its position for holding debate on the subject since it is of the view that the petrol shortage caused great amount of anxiety among the people and it raised serious questions about the national security as it is directly linked with it.
The opposition is urging Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to come in the house during the session that it has summoned and offer the government’s position on the crucial subject. The sources indicated that the session could be summoned on February 2 (Monday) and it is unlikely that it would last more than a day because the following day would be private members day. The agenda of the opposition would be talked out on the same day.
Interestingly, a large number of the members of the house would not be able to attend it because a delegation of the National Assembly members has gone to China under the leadership of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The house will be convened by the acting speaker.
