Rs95.59b allocated for Punjab Police

Punjab government has allocated Rs 95.597 billion for Punjab Police Department with an additional allocation of Rs 5.365 billion under the head of non-development budget estimates for the fiscal year 2017-18 which represents an increase of 9.55 percent over budget estimates of FY 2016-17.

Punjab Police Department had received Rs 88.630 billion for the year 2016-17 which rose to Rs 90.232 billion after revised estimates for the same year.

As many as Rs 87.180 billion have been allocated for provincial police, Rs 468.999 million for district police, Rs 2. 294 billion for training, Rs 4. 659 billion for other civil armed forces and Rs 994 million under the head of “Others.” The government has allocated Rs 80.654 billion under the head of salary while Rs 14. 942 billion have been allocated under the head of non-salary out of the total allocated budget for Punjab Police Department.

Moreover, Punjab government has allocated Rs 6.135 billion for Police Department under the head of Development Budget for the FY 2017-18 which represents 61 percent increase over the previous budget. As many as Rs 5.135 billion have been allocated for 174 ongoing schemes and Rs 1 billion for the new 69 schemes. The government has allocated Rs 2,183 million for the completion of 88 police stations with full funding and 34 new police stations with partial funding. The allocated amount is 43 percent higher than the previous year. According to the new initiatives, the purpose is to strengthen capacity and improve project development and police management. 

 The government has announced 20 schemes of Counter-Terrorism Department and Rs 1,004 million have been allocated for the purpose. The government has allocated Rs 658 million for 10 schemes of Dolphin Police Lines Centres which is 50 percent higher than the previous year.

 The government has allocated Rs 582 million for the construction and improvement of 6 police schools/training centres. About Rs 500 million have been allocated for the construction of training lab at Punjab Forensic Science Agency; Rs 252 million have been allocated for the procurement of lab equipment for the establishment of training lab at Punjab Forensic Science Agency. The government has allocated Rs 100 million for the procurement of fingerprint identification system for Punjab Forensic Science Agency. The satellite station of Punjab Forensic Science Agency at divisional level will be strengthened with Rs 50 million.  

Other than the aforementioned budget, Punjab government will spend Rs 45 billion on the establishment of Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre in six major cities of Punjab; Rawalpindi, Gujranawala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha and Faisalabad; under Public Order and Safety Affairs. This is the largest provision for an ongoing scheme in the allocation for the Police Department in the financial year 2017-2018.
