Heat-ridden Lahorites find solace in canal

City canal was the only place relieving the citizens from the scorching heat and continuous unscheduled outages as hot and dry weather continued to prevail in the provincial capital here Sunday.

Met office said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. They predicted that mainly very hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while rain-thunderstorm is expected at a few places in Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas.

Met officials said no rainfall was observed anywhere across the country. They added that Sunday’s maximum temperature was observed at Turbat and Sibbi where mercury reached 52°C while it was 51°C at Jacobabad, 50°C at Larkana, 49°C at Dadu, Sukkur and Moen-jo-daro and 48°C at Noorpur Thal, Rahimyar Khan, Bhakkar, Kot Addu and Bahawalnagar.

In Lahore, mercury was recorded as 40°C while minimum temperature also rose to 28°C while humidity level in the air was 29 percent, the officials said.

Citizens said with the rise in mercury outages had also increased manifolds. They questioned that where the electricity of recently inaugurated Sahiwal coal power plant and other power plants have gone. They said electricity was going for one hour after every half hour turning the routine life as hell. They also criticised the government officials for saying that no unscheduled outages are taking place anywhere in the city.
