Putting to rest the summer vacation confusion, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has decided that June 3 will be the last day of students in government schools and colleges of the Islamabad Capital Territory before their two-month break from studies.

The decision is in line with the basic calendar of academic activities made by the FDE for the current year.

Previously, the closure of schools for the summer vacation ahead of the fasting month of Ramazan was under the consideration of the FDE.

However, the FDE opted to go ahead with its earlier plans to suspend academic activities in schools from June 5 to August 5.

The ICT public sector educational institutions will resume classes on August 7 after weekend.

Repair and maintenance will be carried out at schools and colleges during the period.

Overseen by the Capital Administration and Development Division, the FDE regulates the public sector education in ICT up to intermediate level.

The region has more than 400 FDE-run schools and colleges.

Most of the city’s private schools and colleges will observe summer break from June 1.

The Punjab government has already closed schools in the province for summer vacation, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will do so today (May 27).

Saeed Ahmed adds:  The managements of several private educational institutions in Rawalpindi are clearly violating the orders of the government by not giving summer vacation to their students and instead have arranged exams during these days.

In accordance with the orders of the government all governmental educational institutions have announced summer vacation for their students on May 25, this year. However, some private institutions are not abiding by these directions.

As a result of this tension and great unrest prevails not only among the students of the private educational institutions but also among their parents.

According to the parents they have to send their children to the schools in scorching heat. As a result their children are being infected with seasonal diseases. The managements of private educational institutions have ignored this fact and totally adopted indifferent attitude towards the sufferings of the children. They are concerned about receiving fees only from the students and do not care about their health which is being affected by the summer.

The parents have appealed to the Punjab government and the authorities of CADD to take immediate notice of the violations by managements of private educational institutions. Stern action needs to be taken against the managements of private institutions, they demanded.
