Islamabad to get two teachers training institutes

The government is in the process of establishing two teachers training institute in the federal capital, one for conventional education and other for non-formal education and adult literacy, with the Unesco collaborating for the latter.

This was stated by Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Engineer Balighur Rehman while addressing the 10th two-day meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers’ Conference held its 10th meeting on Wednesday.

The two-day event was organised to make discussions and decisions on various subjects, including non-formal education system; private education system and their regulation and fee structure; reforms and mainstreaming of seminaries, and reforms in assessment and examination system.

The state minister said the future of our children was linked to provision of accessible and quality education, whose provision was the responsibility of the State as declared in the Constitution.

“All provinces and federating units of the country need to work collectively for improving prospects of education sector in the country. This forum having country wide representation provides the impetus and opportunity for collaboration in this regard,” he said.

The minister said post devolution, importance of this forum had increased many times to set the way forward and ensure concerted efforts for the cause of education at national level.

He said the consensus-based decisions helped achieve across the board and smooth implementation.

“The National Curriculum Council tasked with reviewing and revising national curriculum has representation of all provinces and is functioning under the consensus developed through this forum. It has already finalised the minimum national education standards in seven broad areas,” he added.

Reaffirming confidence in the forum, the minister said as provinces shared experiences and achievements with each other, it offered mutual learning opportunities and an environment of healthy competition.
