Punjab NAB arrests official for fraud

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore Monday arrested former regional director, National Industrial Parks Development (NIPD) on the charges of fraudulently purchasing 100 acre land in Sargodha for industrial park consequently causing a loss of Rs112.5 million to government exchequer.

According to a NAB spokesman, the accused was identified as Muhammad Mohsin Syed. He said NAB initiated an inquiry against the prime accused in 2015 on the complaint of an internal source that accused being the director north purchased the 100 acre land on multiple times higher rates than the actual existing rates in 2012 which valued around Rs20 million as per DC rates but the accused purchased the land in Rs132.5 million from a middleman by keeping aside legal owner of the land.

The spokesman said saline drainage running across the land consists of 42 kanal total land which had been already acquired by irrigation department was purchased by NIPD and paid for the piece of land.

Hence, he added, on the charges of corruption, corrupt practices and misuse of authority, NAB Lahore arrested Muhammad Mohsin Syed and presented him before accountability court for seeking physical remand.
