Mayo surgical tower inspected

Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah visited Mayo Hospital, according to a handout issued on Thursday. 

He inquired after the patients of bypass surgery at Cardiac Surgery Unit and other patients at West Surgical Women Ward and Emergency and asked from them about medical facilities. He took round of Central Pathological Laboratory and inspected the record of patients coming to emergency department. 

He directed increasing facility of coldwater and installation of canopies for the attendants of the patients outside the emergency. The secretary inspected surgical civil work at surgical tower and sought information about the schedule of procurement of medical equipment and their installation. Project Director Prof Abrar Ashraf said LCs will be opened within ten days for the procurement of medical equipment and the companies concerned will be responsible for dispatching equipment within 90 days and their installation within 50 days.

The secretary said every day is precious therefore all the process should be completed at the earliest so that people could benefit from modern facilities of surgical tower.

Najam Shah said reforms and emergency cadre has been introduced first time in Pakistan in the Mayo Hospital as an experiment in emergency department. KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Asad Aslam said posts for staff of emergency department have been approved.

The secretary said approval of SNE of other vacancies of emergency cadre will be taken through a summary. He said emergency carder system is being started as a pilot project at Mayo Hospital and after its success the system will be introduced in other teaching hospitals. Taking notice of delay of installation of new Echocardiography and Angiography machines at cardiac unit, he directed Professor of Cardiology Dr Saqib Shaffi to ask the firm concerned for immediate installation of the machines otherwise action of blacklisting will be taken.

Najam Ahmed Shah took notice of slow installation of new machinery at cardiac surgery unit as well as procurement and installation of diagnostic equipment.
