LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has decided to take steps on a war footing to avoid any further rail accidents in the country. According to a press release, this was agreed in a meeting, chaired by Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, on Wednesday.

A delegation of senior drivers also briefed the minister on the steps which could help avoid train accidents. They suggested the PR management that training schools at the divisional level should be made functional in which senior drivers as instructors could teach fresh courses to drivers. Khawaja Saad  directed the officials concerned that from now onwards, all medical tests of railway drivers wouldn’t be conducted from its own hospital i.e, Karen Hospital instead the tests would be conducted through private or government hospitals in their each respective division. The minister also told the meeting that Walton Academy would be upgraded in the first phase of CPEC as human resource development would be his top priority. He directed the measures for improving railway level crossings to avoid accidents.

Kh Saad also criticised the previous government for their failure in addressing railways issues. He said his government was doing its best to put this transport facility on the right track.  Meanwhile, federal government inspector of Railways Mian Muhammad Arshad would commence inquiry into an unfortunate accident between two freight trains from Thursday (today) in Karachi division. He would also visit the site today. People can submit any evidence, if they have, related to the accident which took place a few days back.
