Labourer killed in Swat scaffolding collapse

MINOGRA: A labourer was killed and another sustained injuries on Tuesday as the scaffolding around a building collapsed in Kabal tehsil of Swat. It was learnt that the labourers were busy working in an under-construction building in Bara Bandai area in Kabal when the scaffolding collapsed. As a result, a labourer identified as Niaz Ali was killed on the spot while Hakeem Khan sustained injuries in the incident. The body and injured were shifted to the Saidu Sharif Hospital.

 

Dog to be slain for biting boy

BHAKKAR: Kallur Kot Assistant Commissioner Raja Saleem on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a dog for biting a boy. In an application to the AC, Anwar said that the dog of Jalil Ahmad attacked and badly injured his son Amir Hamza. He said that the dog had also bitten some other persons. Both the parties were summoned and after hearing arguments, the AC announced the verdict. Meanwhile, Jalil said that he had already been jailed for a week in the dog-bite case and now the death sentence to the dog was against justice. He said that he would appeal to the higher authorities against the AC’s verdict. When contacted, the AC said that he ordered the killing of dog as it appeared to be dangerous for the people. He said that he had directed the municipal administrator to check whether the dog was registered or not.

 

Hazara University approves budget

MANSEHRA: The finance committee of Hazara University on Tuesday approved Rs2.29 billion budget for the next financial year. Hazara University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Idrees presided over the meeting, which gave the approval. According to break-up of the budgetary allocation, an amount of Rs1.3 billion was allocated for development and Rs1.25 billion was earmarked for non-development budget, including salary of faculty and other staff. Speaking on occasion, Dr Idrees said that the number of students at the university had reached almost 13,000 and there were 33 departments.

 

Farmer axed to death over enmity

PAKPATTAN:A farmer was axed to death over enmity at Chak 76-D on Tuesday. Farmer Allah Baksh had a land dispute with accused Niaz Ahmad. On the day of the incident, Allah Baksh was busy working in his fields when the accused and his accomplices allegedly axed him to death. Police have registered a case.

 

LHCBA condemns murder of two lawyers

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Tuesday condemned the murder of two lawyers and demanded the government authorities to immediately arrest the culprits.   Advocate Alia Shehzadi, a resident of Sheikhpura, was murdered on the Sheikhupura Road and Advocate Dr Allah Bakash was murdered in Shikarpur, Sindh. LHCBA President Ch Zulfiqar Ali, other office-bearers and members of the bar condemned the murders. They urged the government to immediately arrest the culprits and provide financial support to the bereaved families.

 

LHC orders appointment of 115 constables

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court ordered the police department to appoint 115 candidates as constables, who had qualified but were deferred. Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan issued the directions while disposing of a petition moved by Aslam and other candidates who were kept in the waiting list. Petitioner’s counsel Malik Awais Khalid said they had qualified the exams but the police department had kept them in the waiting list. He alleged that now the police department intended to recruit fresh constables by ignoring the petitioners.

 

NAB hands over 4.2m chequeto Fesco official

LAHORE: The NAB Lahore director general on Tuesday handed over a cheque for Rs 4.2 million to the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) chief executive officer (CEO). The amount was recovered from Fesco defaulters. According to a NAB spokesman, Fesco had approached it in 2016 seeking action against defaulters. The amount was recovered from defaulters through voluntary return (VR) and plea bargain (PB), he added.

 

YDA concerned over attack on doctor

LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation in hospitals after a latest incident of alleged attack by a patient’s attendant injuring a doctor in the Services Hospital in Lahore on Monday night. The doctors claimed that an attendant of a female patient in Medical Unit-II of Services Hospital attacked and injured a duty doctor, Dr Junaid, with a broken glass, which caused multiple lacerations and wounds on his arms leading to excessive bleeding. He needed 19 stitches to close the wounds. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at the Shadman police station against the attendant.

Bail plea of rape accused dismissed

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition of suspects involved in the rape of a girl from Pattoki. Nazim and his accomplices had filed the petition submitting that police registered a fake case against them. They pleaded the court to accept their bail petition. However, a law officer opposed their stance saying that they raped a girl who was a resident of Pattoki. The officer presented medical report.
