16 prisoners, eight cops injured in DI Khan accident
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Sixteen prisoners and eight policemen sustained injuries when a van fell into a ditch near the Pushta Pul here on Sunday.
The sources said that a van carrying 22 prisoners was on its way to Dera Ismail Khan from Swat when it plunged into the ditch early in the day. Police sources said 16 prisoners and eight cops were injured in the incident.
The prisoners were being shifted to the Central Jail Dera Ismail Khan after they were produced in the Anti-Terrorism Court in Swat. They had been arrested in connection with the April 21 riots in Chitral town.
Eyewitnesses said the rescue workers reached the spot soon after the incident and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.A police official said the driver may have dozed off, causing the accident.
