Couple get death sentence for minor’s murder
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) awarded the death sentence to a couple on Saturday for kidnapping and killing an eight-year-old girl in 2013. A co-accused was sentenced to life in prison in the case.
In its verdict, the court observed that one Bilal and his wife Reema had kidnapped Reema’s cousin Neha from her school situated in the Azizabad police jurisdiction.
The couple had demanded Rs1 million as ransom for releasing the minor. They were assisted by one Waqar, and when Neha’s parents failed to pay the hefty ransom, the three accused murdered the girl.
A case of kidnapping for ransom and murder was registered against the three on December 24, 2013. The court further observed that the prosecution had proven the charges of kidnapping and murder.
Hence, the accused Bilal and Reema are liable to be awarded the death sentence, while the co-accused Waqar is being sentenced to life in prison, concluded the court.
