Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences) Director Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan in an interview with ‘The News’ said that the higher education in Pakistan is in a transformative stage. Many institutes of higher education are changing their model from a purely academic and research based, to the one that includes trainings and more direct interactions with the public sector organisations and the society. Hence, they are coming down from their ivory towers to look at the real world problems that are faced by the society, business, industry and the country at large.

The business schools in particular, are becoming more entrepreneurial by becoming responsive to the needs of business organizations in the areas of research and innovation, human resource development and technology adoption.

He said, The Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences) has achieved incremental progress in faculty and staff development, infrastructure improvements and quality of graduates.

We have 24 academic programmes covering bachelors, masters and PhD studies. These programmes are managed by their respective academic coordinators. With the help of state of the art facilities, students are exposed to quality education.

The teaching is supported by our centers of excellence that include HRDC, CPPR and EDC.In addition to applied research, these centers of excellence provide internship opportunities to the students.

We also endeavour to meet our social responsibilities by engaging in various activities of social development work and particularly by running structural programs, like Access, for instance, where with donor support, we strengthen the English, Maths and Computer skills of female students of govt and private schools.

We also do similar trainings for students from Afghanistan through the aegis of the HEC. We now have over 45 PhD faculty members with foreign and local qualifications. Some of them have also received trainings and post doctorate qualifications from foreign universities. Students are prepared for holding responsible jobs successfully in companies, and they are also encouraged to become job providers rather than job seekers. The Entrepreneurship Development Centre provides business incubation facilities for students who want to start their own businesses.Industrial tours are arranged to give the students a practical view of business operations.

He said, job interviews are regularly scheduled at IMSciences, and so are visits and interaction with companies’ managers and leaders. Foreigntours for students and faculty members are usually organised in the summer vacations which include job seminars, interactionwith businessmen and universities, and of courseenjoyable sightseeing.

The hard work by faculty and staff members, and students, has helped the institution in earning a fourth place among the national ranking of business schools by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC). The full support and guidance of the Board of Governors of the IMSciences, the Govt. of KP and the HEC has always been source of strength for IMSciences in achieving its goals and objectives. More is expected of them, and much more development and growth is expected from IMSciences in the wake of development in the country, and potential opportunities arising from CPEC with the improvement in the security condition of the country, a possibility of merger of FATA with KP and growth in the economy. The IMSciences will strengthen its students to be ready technologically, professionally and be ethically and morally correct in meeting the challenges of a global productive citizen.
