Dacoit killed in encounter with villagers

TOBA TEK SINGH: A dacoit was killed in an encounter with villagers in Chak 337/JB on Saturday. Four dacoits looted the house of Sheikh Muhammad Arif. Later, they forced their entry into the house of Master Qutab Din but the family raised an alarm, forcing them to escape. In the meantime, the villagers reached the spot and started chasing the dacoits. Seeing the villagers, the dacoits opened fire on them. The villagers also retaliated. As a result, one of the dacoits was killed on the spot while the others managed to escape. The body of the killed dacoit was shifted to the Gojra THQ Hospital for autopsy. The dacoit could not be identified. A Nawan Lahore police official claimed that the dacoit was killed by the firing of his accomplices.

Rain lashes Nankana

NANKANA:     The city and adjoining areas received heavy rain for the second consecutive day Sunday. The rain continued with regular intervals and made weather pleasant.

 

Three shot dead in Lahore over monetary, property disputes

LAHORE: Three persons were shot dead in two different parts of the provincial metropolis on Sunday. Two persons were killed in crossfire between two groups in Chamra Mandi, Misri Shah, following a monetary issue. The victims were identified as Ahsan and Riaz Gujjar belonging to each party. Two persons also received wounds in the incident, who were admitted to a local hospital. Police said that both parties had an exchange of fire over a monetary issue. Yet in another incident, a man gunned down a maternal uncle of his wife in the Liaqatabad area, following a property issue. The victim was identified as Abdul Razzaq. Police shifted the bodies to morgue for autopsies. Meanwhile, a man shot and wounded his wife in the Nishtar Colony area. The injured woman identified as Salma Bibi was admitted to a local hospital where her condition was said to be critical.

 

IIU’s joint ventures with Saudi varsities sought

Islamabad: While pushing the International Islamic University (IIU) for joint ventures with the Saudi universities, acting ambassador of Saudi Arabia Marwan R Merdad promised full support and cooperation for the purpose. He gave the call during a meeting with IIU President Dr Ahmed Yousif Al Draiweesh in his office here. The IIU vice presidents accompanied the university’s president. Both the sides agreed on an increase in the Pak-Saudi cooperation in the field of education and said they would help each other in furthering the cause of education in the two countries. The IIU president thanked the acting ambassador for his support and participation in the activities held in line with 12th meeting of the university’s board of trustees. He said the IIU was striving to hold joint ventures with Saudi varsities to help address the challenges of modern times. Dr. Al-Draiweesh said the IIU would keep playing the due role in dissemination of Islam’s true message of peace in the world.

 

Khassadar killed in Mohmand Agency IED blast

GHALLANAI: A Khassadar was killed in a roadside blast in the Safi tehsil in Mohmand Agency, official sources said on Sunday. The sources said that a Khassadar identified as Iqbal Khan was killed and Zar Muhammad sustained injuries when they were targetted with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Alingar area in Safi tehsil.  The injured was shifted to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Ghallani. Also, unidentified persons threw a hand grenade into the house of one Sheikh Nabi in Saeed Khan Koroona. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Lightning kills four in Jhang

JHANG: Four people were killed when lightning fell on them in different incidents here on Saturday night. According to Rescue 1122, Pathana Khan (55) of Hassan Shah, Javed Umar (32) of 18-Hazari, Munir Ahmad of Kot Bahadur and Munir of Majhi Sultan village were killed when lightning struck them. Meanwhile, five people, including a woman and a child, sustained injuries from lightning. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

 

Kite string injures girl

LAHORE: The hazardous kite string badly cut the face of an 11-year-old girl in Bhagatpura Shadbagh on Sunday. The girl identified as Fakhra was on her way along with her father on a bike when a stray kite string cut her face. The injured girl was rushed to a local hospital where her condition was said to be critical.
