Justice Athar Minallah of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here on Thursday issued a notice to the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) registrar directing him to explain why his organisation did not register graduates of Shifa Medical College (SMC) despite court orders.
The IHC bench directed the PMDC registrar to appear before the court today (Friday).
A civil miscellaneous application was filed by Ali Haq, Dr. Khansa Qadeer, Hiba Nafees, 90 medical graduates of SMC and SMC Vice Chancellor Muhammad Iqbal khan through their counsel, Raja Saimul Haq Satti Advocate. The petitioners cited the PMDC registrar as respondent.
The petitioners' counsel told the court that the IHC bench, through an order, had enabled the SMC students to appear in examinations to be held by Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to appoint medical students in house jobs.
The petitioners told the court that PMDC counsel on January 16, 2015 had assured to the IHC that the registration of the graduates shall be processed but so far the notification of inclusion of SMC in schedule-1 is in field, but the respondents are reluctant to register the SMC graduates.
The petitioner told the court that different hospitals have already taken medical graduates for house jobs and couple of good hospitals are also admitting medical graduates. For house jobs, the PIMS is also accepting application where last date of application is January 26 but the SMC students need PMDC registration.
The petitioner has prayed to the IHC to direct the management of PMDC to register the graduates of SMC with Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University enabling them to process their applications for house job purposes.
