KARACHI: Former chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed Sallu said on Thursday that Pakistan have better chances to win the Test which begins on Friday (today) in Kingston.

“We have depth in batting line and have a better bowling line,” he told PPI.

He added that Pakistan defeated West Indies 2-0 in the UAE in the Test series when the two teams last met and winning T20 and ODI series earlier in the tour would also give Pakistan psychological advantage.

“If Ahmed Shahzad is out of form then Shan Masood could be given a chance. However, Shahzad also has experience and may be team management might think this way. Moreover, we have Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan in the middle. There would be Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed and Shadab Khan could also bat,” he said.

Sallu further said that if the pitch supports spinners Pakistan can field three spinners, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Asghar and Yasir Shah.

However, if two spinners have to be employed, Shadab and Asghar should be picked in order to have variety.

“Hopefully, Hasan Ali recovers from injury by tomorrow and plays in the first Test. Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz could play an important role if the track supports pacers,” he added. But, he said, the team should not take West Indies lightly.
