Different parts of the country, including twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, have received second winter spell of rain which increased the intensity of cold. Heavy snowfall over the hills was also reported on Wednesday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, upper and central parts of Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan have also received intermittent rain. It said the spell of moderate to light rain will continue till Friday morning.
There were reports of snowfall in Kalam, Malam Jabba, Murree and Nathiagali. The spell of snowfall is expected to continue till Friday. The intensity of cold will further increase in upper and central parts of the country, particularly in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The cold and moist winds coming from the west and the north contributed to the rain that lashed wide-ranging areas of northern Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan and in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
PMD Director Dr. Muhammad Hanif told ‘The News’ that cloudy weather was expected for two to three days till Friday, which would increase the intensity of cold. He said that now farmers could sow wheat because these days are ideal for this purpose. Peshawar, Swat, lower and upper Dir, Chitral, Malakand Agency, AJK and parts of Mardan district also received rain on Wednesday, he said.
