43 livestock breeders get cheques

FAISALABAD

Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani Tuesday distributed Rs 0.48 million cheques among 43 livestock breeders.

As a chief guest in a ceremony held at DC Complex in connection with distribution of cheques under 2nd phase, the DC said meat, milk, eggs and other dairy products are important part of our food and the Punjab government has taken revolutionary step for the development and progress of livestock sector. He appreciated the keen interest of breeders in “Save the Calves Scheme” and “Calves Fattening Scheme’ and said the government was giving attractive incentives to the livestock breeders to increase production of meat, milk and other dairy products.

Under the arrangements of Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Rs 20 million is being distributed among livestock breeders of the district as incentive under ‘Save the Calves Scheme’ and ‘Calf Fattening Schemes’ in the 2nd phase. He said providing quality and hygienic meat to citizens, the Punjab Livestock Department had introduced a modern system of slaughtering at Lahore and the consumers were purchasing meat from the outlet of livestock department. Moreover, the consumers were being provided meat through mobile sale van at their door steps and this system would also be introduced soon at Faisalabad. He stressed upon close coordination between breeders and livestock department, saying that benefits of the government policies in livestock sector should be provided to the breeders in letter and spirit. Director Livestock Dr Munir Shami informed that Rs6,500 was being given as incentive to the breeders for nourishment of one calf and Rs 4,000 to breeders for fattening the one calf of the age of twelve to sixteen months.
