It is high time that we get rid of the menace that is our local ‘thana culture’ and remodel the police force to reestablish the long lost sense of trust between our officers and the citizens they serve to protect.
These views were expressed by Sindh Inspector General of Police A D Khowaja on Thursday at the inauguration ceremony of a Police Reporting Centre at the city’s Preedy police station.
“We – the police and the public – need to realise that we need to work together if crime is to be beaten once and for all. The time is right for efforts to foster friendly relations among law enforcers and the citizenry,” he said.
Reiterating his point, IGP Khowaja added, “Now, the police needs to remain committed to the goal of regaining the public’s trust. Both sides should come forward for each other and a better collective future.”
At the event, District South DIG Azad Khan informed the IGP that the reporting centre would be linked to the IT Department of the Central Police Office, thus ensuring central connectivity at all times.
Khan said the facility would afford citizens the chance to file complaints and FIRs without any hassle. Similarly, it would also ease the process to acquire documents such as confirmations and character certificates.
