Call to change legal system under Islamic teachings

Urdu Science Board (USB) organised a debate on “Scientific Foundations of Legal System & Discipline and their Social Importance” here in its office.
According to a press statement, in his keynote address, Prof Dr Ammanullah from Punjab University (PU) Law College, said the structure of legal system and its implementation culture could only be upheld in a democratic and peaceful society and strong state organisations were necessary for the purpose. He stressed amendments in the Constitution and legal system in accordance with the Islamic teachings. Dr Ammanullah said media was a blessing in a democratic system and it should be used to make progressive changes in the existing legal system for social betterment.
Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyar, USB Director General, said scientific approach was important for framing a legal system and its implementation, and religion, society, traditions and beliefs are the basic components of a legal system. He said people should be provided with equal rights in a state for proper implementation of laws.
Shah Zeb Khan, Assistant Prof PU English Department, said different powers play their role in the composition of a legal system. Dr Amir Saeed, Mian Qaisar Zaman advocate, Jamil Ahmad Adeel, Akram Somroo, Dr Nauman Javed, Dr Shariq and others spoke. A large number of students, teachers from various universities and officials of different government departments attended the discussion which was followed by a question-answer session.
