MULTAN: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who on Saturday inaugurated the country’s first women crisis centre, said those accusing the PML-N government of receiving commission through development projects would get nothing except regret and ignominy.

The chief minister said the PML-N and the entire nation would accept and respect the Supreme Court judgment in the Panama Leaks case. He added that all those, who ruled the country and misused the resources, must be held accountable.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the facility, officially known as Violence against Women Centres (VAWCs), on the Matti Tal Road, he said the government was strengthening and protecting women at all levels by introducing reforms and launching several projects for their uplift because no society could progress without their involvement and development.

He said the reforms were aimed at enabling the women become self-reliant and providing them with the energy as well as opportunities to make a positive contribution to the society.

The chief minister said the centres, established to prevent violence against women, were a part of the comprehensive programme launched by the government for women empowerment and protection.

He said no religion allowed violence against women, acid throwing and teasing. “Islam strictly forbids violence against the women,” he said, adding that providing justice and shelter to women was a responsibility of the government.

Shahbaz said, “It is a duty of the government to provide complete security to the women who suffer from violence or any injustice is done to them.”

He added that police, administration and the judiciary should proactively work for women protection and provision of justice.

Shahbaz announced setting up more centres in different districts of the province. He appreciated the services being provided at the centre and said all the facilities would be provided to women under one roof.

The chief minister said the centres would work round the clock and streamline the system, including investigation and prosecution, by providing the disconnected justice delivery services at a single facility.

He added that from first aid, medical examination and treatment to psychological evaluation, counselling and post-trauma rehabilitation every service would be provided to the women at the state-of-the-art centres.

The chief minister said the loadshedding would be overcome by the year end for which the credit went to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He remarked that those who criticised the metro bus projects and named it as ‘jangla bus’, were going to introduce the same in Peshawar.

Later, Shahbaz visited different sections of the centre and lauded the quality of work.
