The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and the Sindh government were at loggerheads once again after the party’s vice-chairmen of the district municipal corporations (DMCs) in Karachi refused to take government vehicles on Saturday, Geo News reported.
Mayor Waseem Akhtar also stood beside the officials and called the government vehicles a “political bribe”.
It was a sorry state of affairs that the Sindh government had given vehicles to officials, but there were no vehicles to lift trash in the mega city, he said while speaking to media during a visit to Shah Faisal Colony.
“We want those vehicles which benefit the people,” he said, adding that “people’s money should be spent on helping people”.
“The people pay their taxes, yet the city is in a bad state,” he remarked. “However, we will continue to work [for the betterment of the city] with the limited sources available to us.”
The mayor added, “So many fire tenders in the city are not functioning properly. I had asked for more fire tenders instead of vehicles for public servants about two months back.”
He also urged the Pakistan Peoples Party chairmen and vice-chairmen to return their vehicles and help facilitate the people.
