France hails legislation on climate change
Islamabad
The Embassy of France has congratulated the Pakistani government over the recent legislation on climate change by Pakistani parliament and said the law would provide a framework for tackling the impacts of a change in the world’s climate and strengthening the country’s climate resilience and adaptation.
By passing and enforcing the Climate Change Act, Pakistan became the fifth country in the world to adopt a specific legislation on climate change.
In a statement issued here, the Embassy of France said it wished to thank particularly the climate change ministry, especially minister Zahid Hamid and his team, all local and international partners and NGOs for their precious contribution and cooperation for the success of the 2015 UN Conference on Climate Change in Paris and the implementation of the agreement made during it.
It said France would continue offering complete support to Pakistan against climate change and would stay committed with new projects on green energy in Pakistan being developed by the French Agency for Development in 2017.
