100th convocation of CIIT held

Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) held its 100th convocation at Convention Centre here on Monday, March 20, 2017 and awarded graduate and post-graduate degrees to eight hundred & thirty four successful students in the ceremony.
The CIIT Rector and Executive Director Comsats Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, was the Chief Guest in convocation, awarded degrees and medals to successful students. He addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts, dedication and team work of CIIT faculty, management and administration. He said that CIIT is committed to provide the best opportunities for learning and personal development within a caring and supportive environment for students. The knowledge acquirement and higher education are transforming virtually every aspect of today’s world. IT institutions have been trusted to be the centre stage of academia. These Institutions have the mandate to evolve a knowledge based socioeconomic culture in the country to help the nation to face the modern challenges of Globalization, he added. Moreover, Board of Governors CIIT gave the interim charge of rector CIIT to Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar. He presented ‘Institute report’ in convocation ceremony and addressed the gathering, highly valued the efforts and services of Dr. S. M Junaid Zaidi for CIIT from 1998 to 2017 and appreciated the efforts of faculty and other staff members for their contribution to accomplish the great task of hundred convocations of CIIT and making it one of the best institution in Pakistan.
There were 834 students, who secured BS, MS and PhD degrees in different disciplines of Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics, Physics, Economics, Biosciences, Business Administration, Computer Engineering, Electrical (Telecommunication Engineering), Electronics, Mathematics and Architecture from Islamabad Campus. MS degrees were awarded to 191 students in Management Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Physics, Computer Science, Bio Sciences, Metrology, Humanities and Mathematics. First time MS in English (Linguistic and Literature) (REL) degrees awarded to 05 student including four male and one female student Moneeba Umer, department of Humanities.
PhD degrees were awarded to 8 students including Muhammad Sajid, Sajid Hussain Alvi, Sardar Muhammad Gulfam, Nasir Khan, Ubaid Ahmed Nisar, Reheela Manzoor, Rabia Kamal and Faisal Azam in Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering (3), Mathematics (4), and Computer Science (1) respectively.
The Gold medallists of different degree programs are included Nazish Talat, Maria Saeed, Muhammad Yasin, Nadeem Asghar, Shehram Jamil, Syed Ali Kazim, Kashif Rabbani, Iram Butt, Faiza Shah, KanwalFiaz and Saima Nasir for Fall 2016.
Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), a leading degree awarding institution of higher education in Pakistan is among the ‘Centre of Excellence’ of Commission on Science & Technology for sustainable development in the South (Comsats).
In its short history, CIIT has contributed considerably in human resource development and successfully completed several assignments of national and international significance. Founder Rector CIIT, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi being fully aware of the importance of education as a driver of economy and importance of Research and Development promoted the imparting of quality education and inculcated research culture in the Institution.
