‘Substandard material in railway stations not to be tolerated’
LAHORE
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has warned that strict action would be taken against those found involved in using substandard material in the construction of railway stations.
Chairing a meeting of senior railways officers, Nespak and other officials concerned at PR Headquarters on Tuesday, the minister said that samples of all under-construction railway stations would be sent to Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) for tests. Substandard material in construction work wouldn’t be tolerated at any cost, the minister warned.
According to a press release, the minister directed all the relevant departments to throw corrupt and incompetent officials out of the construction work. He said every corrupt official will be chased and punished. On the occasion, report of various under construction stations was shared to the minister who directed officials concerned to complete the task in time.
LCWU: A three-day conference on women empowerment and their role in economic development started at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Tuesday.
According to a press release, Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Mashhood was the chief guest who speaking on the occasion said Pakistani youth, especially females were empowered and had the potential to change the dynamics of the country with their courage and determination. “We men and women need to stand united and prove the world that we are a nation not a crowd,” the minister added. LCWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar speaking on the occasion highlighted her university’s efforts for women empowerment and development. She said women should know their rights and must practice them to progress. The VC said LCWU and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had joined hands to implement a project which was aimed to encourage gender institutionalization through gender sensitisation of students.
