LAHORE
Despite decreased demand, the intensity of power outages has increased in the areas covered by Lahore Electric Supply Company up to 10 hours a day, says an official announcement.
The overall power demand in LESCO areas including, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara and Nankana Sahib districts nowadays dropped to 2,900 mw due to seasonal factors but the power manager failed to even meet it. According to a revise load management plan, domestic and commercial consumers living in urban areas are now facing seven hours a day cuts daily in the form of one-hour interruption at a time against earlier daily outages of six hours.
On the other hand, people living in rural areas are bearing the brunt of loadshedding as they are facing 10 hours a day power cuts daily against earlier arrangements of 8-hour suspension in the power supply according to the load management plan.
Over 10 hours a day power blackouts are subjected to industrial consumers, including export-oriented units. People living in high-losses areas are experiencing 12 hours daily power suspension as a punitive measure.
Meanwhile, as per official data, nationwide power shortfall, except Karachi Electric, has been calculated at 3,100 mw. The demand of electricity stood at 12,100 mw while peak generation recorded at 8,900 mw. The input of hydropower was 840 mw while the daily supply of fuel for power generation improved to 29,000 tons.
