CDA to upgrade sewerage system

Capital Development Authority (CDA) is currently working on number of projects costing Rs32.22 million to upgrade existing sewerage system and lay down new pipelines in various residential sectors.

According to a working paper, the projects are currently under way in various residential sectors to upgrade sewerage system including Sector G-5 (Rs5.78 million); Sector G-6 (Rs3.32 million); Sector F-6 (Rs5.9 million); Blue Area (Rs1.78 million); Sector G-10 (Rs4.04 million); Sector I-10 (Rs3.47 million); Sector I-11 (Rs 3.37 million); Sector F-8 (Rs1.08 million); Sector G-8 (Rs2.30 million); and Sector F-10 (Rs1.18 million).

The ongoing projects are part of a bigger plan costing Rs150 million that would also connect the sewerage lines of the residential sectors with main sewerage treatment plant.

Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi said the ever-increasing economic activities has given birth to high-rise buildings, residential apartments, housing schemes, educational institutions, markets and industrial units due to which the old sewerage system in not able to cope with the emerging situation.

He said the elected representatives of local bodies are working hard to identify the basic problems of the people, adding "The Mayor has already issued directives to CDA and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad to improve water and sewerage system both in rural and urban areas of the capital city."
