Large-scale arrests, six terrorists killed in Muzaffargarh

Raddul Fasaad continues across country; extremist eliminated in Kech; suicide bomber captured in Shikarpur

LAHORE: Pakistan Army, along with paramilitary forces, police and the Counter-Terrorism Department personnel, continued its fresh operation Raddul Fasaad across the country on Friday.

According to reports pouring in from different parts of the country, six terrorists were killed in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab, a suicide bomber was captured from Shikarpur in Sindh and dozens of suspected terrorists were arrested in crackdown across Pakistan.

MULTAN: A special team of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) gunned down six suspected terrorists in river belt across Chenab between Multan and Muzaffargarh on Friday, sources said.

The dead belonged to Jamatul Ahrar, a splinter group of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, CTD officials said. The encounter took place at Multan Head Muhammadwala bridge.

The CTD Multan had got information that some terrorists, Yaseen alias Imran and others, were hiding in a place close to river Chenab’s distributary TP Link Canal area of Muzaffargarh district.

The team raided the place and ordered the terrorists to surrender. However, they opened fire on the raiding party. As a result of retaliatory fire, six terrorists were killed including Yaseen alias Imran and Amjad. Three to four others, however, managed to escape from the scene. Police recovered hand-grenades, pistols and explosive material from the place after the encounter ended.

TOBA TEK SINGH: The police and law-enforcement agencies conducted a search operation in Pir Mehal area and arrested an activist of a banned outfit and one Afghan national on Friday. The Afghan national was identified as Abdullah and police recovered hate literature and prohibited material from his possession.

The CTD, in a separate operation in Awami Basti, arrested one activist of a banned outfit, who was identified as Gohar. Maps and hate literature was recovered from his possession.

KARACHI: A terrorist was arrested from Shikarpur during a search operation on Friday.

According to initial reports, the terrorist wanted to target important places in Shikarpur. An explosive jacket and material, along with maps, were also seized from his possession. He has been handed to the CTD for interrogation.

PESHAWAR: A terrorist bid was foiled here on Friday. The police and security forces recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand-grenades and ammunition in the limits of Chamkani Police Station.

SSP Operations Sajjad Khan told reporters that police, along with other security agencies personnel, raided a hideout in Shahpur village where IEDs were prepared.

"The raiding party recovered an IED weighing around 20 kilograms, 25-kg explosive powder, prima chord, fuses and other bomb making accessories from the place.

“Around 34 hand-grenades were also recovered," the SSP, flanked by other senior officers, told reporters.

He said Chamkani police, during another action in New City, recovered 24 rifles, 21 pistols, 7,100 rounds and 76 magazines from a house. The official said one Ayub from Lakki Marwat was also arrested in another raid.

QUETTA: The law-enforcement agencies conducted search operations in different localities of industrial town of Hub and arrested nine suspects, said police sources on Friday. Those arrested were shifted to police station where they were being interrogated.

Meanwhile, a terrorist belonging to a banned outfit was killed in Kech and six suspects were arrested during a search operation on Friday. Levies sources said that on a tip-off, an operation was conducted in Bilangor area of district Kech.

An exchange of fire took place between militants and security personnel in which one extremist was killed, while six suspects were held.
