RAWALPINDI: Youngsters in the city Friday violated a ban on kite flying resulting in the killing of a man by metallic string, while two were electrocuted.

Hospitals received dozens of slightly injured people who were discharged after treatment. All through the day, downtown areas witnessed aerial firing, fireworks and police raids.  Despite effort, police fail to stop kite flying in Ganjmandi, Bani, New Town, Nasirabad and Sadiqabad etc, where people think the police have not made a serious attempt.

Safdar Hussain, 33, an employee of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), was killed at 6th Road Flyover when metallic string ran through his neck. He died on the spot after his jugular vein was cut, said doctors.

In the limits of Waris Khan Police Station, a sharp string injured Imran Ahmed, 34.  In the limits of Satellite Town Police Station, Muhammad Kamran, 18, was electrocuted while snatching a kite.

CPO Office claims that the police have arrested 200 kite runners and confiscated 20,000 kites. A Karachi-bound aeroplane of a private company was called back to Benazir Bhutto Airport after it was hit by a kite. It was allowed to fly after clearance by engineers.
