PU teachers boycott classes
LAHORE: A recent decision by Punjab University Vice-Chancellor vis-à-vis change of director at the Institute of Geology has not gone down well with some faculty members who on Friday terming the same ‘a violation of the Syndicate’ observed a strike and boycotted classes at the institute.
The protesting teachers also shared their concerns with the media through a detailed write-up about the issue alleging the move by the VC Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir was illegal as the new director was removed in 2015 on the charges of financial irregularities and misconduct. They warned that if the VC did not withdraw the order all the faculty and employees would held a protest demonstration against the VC outside his office on Monday.
The faculty members said PU Syndicate had approved the appointment of Dr Shahid Sameeni until 2019 and he was working efficiently. They alleged that Prof Dr Shahid Ghazi was appointed on political bases to please a particular group of teachers.
Meanwhile, the first meeting of the new Executive Council of the PU Academic Staff Association was held here on Friday. PUASA President Javed Sami chaired the meeting which condemned the recent wave of terrorism in the country and expressed solidarity with Armed Forces for launching Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad.
The meeting also appreciated vision demonstrated by the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir Further, the council also appreciated the VC for appointing most senior teachers as head of the departments.
