Shifting of weekly bazaar to ICT administration opposed

Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) during its 10th session held at Pak-China Friendship Centre on Friday unanimously passed a resolution against planned shifting of control of weekly bazaar from MCI to Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration.
The house discussed the issue of shifting of administrative control of weekly bazaars from MCI to ICT Administration. The decision was opposed by all the members of the house and a unanimous resolution was passed that the weekly bazaars are providing relief to the residents of the city and MCI is efficiently managing the affairs of the weekly bazaars.
Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz presided over the session while deputy mayors MCI Rifat Javed, Syed Zeshaan Naqvi and Azam Khan, MCI Chief Officer Asad Mehboob Kiyani and all members of MCI.
The six-point agenda including MCI Budget, revision and increase of taxes imposed by UCs, administrative control of weekly bazaars etc were presented during the meeting.
Informing the status of budget of Sheikh Anser Aziz said that non-development budget has been approved by the prime minister and presently it is with Finance Division and will be allocated in next few days through Ministry of Interior.
The mayor of Islamabad asked the union councils chairmen to submit comprehensive details of development schemes of their respective union councils so that, after estimation, these could be further transmitted for allocation of budget.
While discussing the issue relating to the stipend of the members of the house The mayor also directed to constitute a committee, which will submit its suggestions regarding issues relating to the stipend of members of the house by taking into consideration the allowances being drawn by the members of such corporations existing in other cities of the country.
He said that women members of the house should be given equal representation in all committees.
Sheikh Anser Aziz further said that different taxes including professional tax would be collected by the respective union councils in accordance with the provision of Local Government Act 2015.
While informing the house about the steps taken to upgrade sanitation system in the city, the mayor said that advertisement for establishment of solid waste management system has been published. He said that under this system sanitation services would be provided to the entire city including the rural areas of the city. He said that state-of-the-art solid waste management system would help maintain the beauty of the city.
He said that it is fruit of local bodies system that rural areas of the city would be provided sanitation services parallel to the sectors of the city.
