Modern lab to be set up at Jinnah Hospital

Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary  Najam Ahmad Shah has said a state-of-the-art pathological lab would be established in Jinnah Hospital under the public-private partnership (PPP) to provide best quality diagnostic facilities to the people. 

He said that other hospitals would also be attached with the lab. Najam Ahmad Shah said that after setting up the pathological lab, a state-of-the-art radiology laboratory would also be included in the plan.

He stated this while presiding over a meeting in connection with setting up a central lab in Jinnah Hospital on Friday.

Allama Iqbal Medical College/Jinnah Hospital Principal Prof Dr Rashid Zia, Medical Superintendent Dr Sohail Saqlain, former Principal Prof Mehmood Shaukat, Prof Mehfooz-ur-Rehman, Health Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti and the representatives of a consultancy firm, Grant Thorton, were also present. 

The consultants gave presentation on the establishment of pathological lab, availability of trained human resource, financial and technical aspects of the project. It was informed that Jinnah Hospital would provide space for the laboratory, whereas, the firm would make investment and install equipment/machinery for the diagnostic lab.

Fee of tests would be fixed with the firm under an MoU and the government will provide funds accordingly on annual basis. Najam Ahmad Shah said that collection centres would be set up at different places in the hospital to avoid long ques.
