Women college to be upgraded

Punjab Higher Education Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that a policy will be devised in consultation with the chief minister to give free admission to the children of police martyrs in public sector higher education institutions so that they can complete their studies without any difficulty. 

He said this while addressing the maiden convocation of Government Degree College for Women, Shalimar Town, on Friday in which medals and certificates were distributed among 44 students of session 2014-16 of BA, BSc and BCom classes. 

He said that the martyred police officers were the heroes of the nation who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He that the Punjab Higher Education Department would extend all-out support in continuation of education of their children so that they could easily study and excel in life.

Besides the construction of four classrooms along with multipurpose hall in the college, the minister also announced provision of two buses to the college for pick and drop service to the students. He also announced upgrade of the college to postgraduate level so that the low-income families’ girls of suburban areas could continue their education without any difficulty.

Raza Gillani said that nine divisional level college teachers’ training academies would be set up in the province to fully prepare them according to changing requirements of the higher education. He also said development-related proposals had been collected from 721 public sector colleges situated in 36 districts of the province about their impending needs.

While talking in the backdrop of the prevailing situation, Gillani said the nation was fully united against the menace of terrorism." We will defeat our enemy at any cost and education promotion was a giant leap in this mission," he added.

Earlier, DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf said Lahore police stood shoulder to shoulder with the people and every Jawan of police was committed to defending the citizens against the coward enemy. MPA Ch Shahbaz and Principal Prof Shahnaz Sattar also spoke on the occasion.
