Conflict of interest

By our correspondents

Crimes and corruption have a direct relationship. In a country where corruption is at its peak, the rate of crimes will increase significantly. This punctures the peace and the growth of a country. What is needed is strict implementation of laws that dispense sever punishments to those involved in any form of corruption.

It must be ensured that institutions like NAB, FIA, FBR etc are independent. Campaigns like ’Say No to Corruption’ don’t have substance if proper steps are not taken to tackle the serious problem of corruption.

It is both an Islamic and a democratic norm or tradition that those holding public offices should not have any conflicts of interest. Pakistan and Israel are two states created on the basis of religion with sole declared purpose of functioning as modern democratic welfare countries.

Nowhere in developed world with rule of law do we find paid servants of state living in gated secure housing colonies. The primary objective for all institutions of state is to serve collective national interest and protect lives and private property of citizens whose taxes pay their salaries, and not for the state and private land to be allotted for commercial gains.
