PESHAWAR: The three-member delegation of Pakistani politicians visiting Afghanistan called on Afghan President Dr Muhammad Ashraf Ghani in Kabul on Saturday and discussed with him various issues including promoting bilateral relations between the two countries.
This was stated in a statement issued by the Presidential Palace in Kabul. The Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) said the delegation included the Pashtunkhwa Milli AWami Party head Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Qaumi Watan Party leader Aftab Sherpao and Awami National Party’s Senator Afrasiab Khattak.
The statement said: “During separate meetings held in the Presidential Palace, issues of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries, improving security situation, joint efforts to fighting terrorism and addressing the problems of Afghan refugees in Pakistan were discussed.”
It said the Pakistani delegation stressed the need for launching joint efforts against the common problems being faced by Afghanistan and Pakistan.
It added that the Pakistani political leaders, who were invited by President Ghani, also stated that the perspective on fighting against terrorism has changed on the other side of the Durand Line.
“People in Pakistan have now realised that there is no difference between good and bad terrorism. Terrorism is not only a threat to the two countries but to the region and the entire world,” the statement quoted the Pakistani leaders as saying.
President Ghani said that the government of Afghanistan would continue joint efforts and consultations and would exert its utmost efforts to strengthen people-to-people contacts at all levels between the two countries.
“The new government in Afghanistan is committed to removing the problems,” the president added.
The meetings were also attended by the former President Hamid Karzai, Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdullah, National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar, a number of jihadi and political figures and Afghan lawmakers.
