APS terror attack united us'
LAHORE
Students and faculty members of Government College University (GCU) on Friday commemorated the sacrifice of martyrs of the Army Public School (APS), Peshawar by taking out a solidarity walk against terrorism and extremism.
The walk was held from the university’s Postgraduate Block to main building. Addressing the participants of the walk organised by the GCU Blood Donor Society and GCU Rovers’ Club, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said “education must be focused on as it had a major role in fight against terrorism.”
Prof Shah said terrorism could not be eliminated without fighting extremism, so Pakistan needed an education system which had a reach to the last children of the country and could inculcate in them tolerance and harmony.
He also stressed the curriculum reforms in the primary and secondary levels of education, saying that GCU had held multiple policy dialogue in which it was a consensus among the academicians, journalists and intellectuals that the last sermon of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and 11th August speech of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah should comprehensively be made part of school level textbooks.
Prof Shah said the APS incident united us as a nation against terrorism and extremism.
Talking to media, the students also expressed their emotions and spoke about the pain they still feel remembering the APS victims. They believed that provision of quality education to all children would be the true revenge. They also chanted slogans in favour of the brave soldiers of Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies who had sacrificed their lives in war against terrorism.
