India has an embedded interest to heat up LoC: JKCHR
Islamabad: Jammu and Kashmir Council for Human Rights (JKCHR) Dr Syed Nazir Gilani has said that India has an embedded interest to heat up the cease fire line (LoC) and divert the attention of the international community from unprecedented abuse of human rights in the valley, says a press release.
Ahead of All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kashmir meeting with Alok Sharma MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office tomorrow (Thursday), JKCHR President Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani in his letter to David Nuttal MP Chairman APPG on Kashmir in the British Parliament asked him about the UK government’s position in regard to Indian security forces, in particular in view of FCO legal opinion in 1965 and the views expressed by the UK at the 239th meeting of the UNSC.
He expressed concern about the profiling of Kashmiri youth and the use of mercenaries as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the rights of peoples to self-determination in Kashmir.
He also pointed out as how in February 2016 Inspector General of Police of Indian occupied Kashmir took a decision to enhance the reward money for killing militants (in fact unarmed Kashmiri youth). The reward money is paid by the police for killing militants fighting Indian rule in the occupied territory.
Dr. Nazir Gilani urged Britain to consider directly on its own strength, or through International Red Cross an urgent humanitarian and medical relief to the people who have been affected by the 4 month curfew.
JKCHR warned in its input that “Elements involved in supporting the cause of self-determination in Kashmir, in particular the insurgents and the tribesmen have been frozen into a non-action by the pledge made in the UNSC resolutions. These elements in particular those who have supported the people militarily, may find it legitimate to regroup.”
