Aqeel clinches Benazir Bhutto International tennis title
KARACHI: Top seed Aqeel Khan captured the men’s singles title when he beat third seed Shahzad Khan in straight sets in the final of the 2nd Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International Tennis Tournament at the Islamabad Tennis Complex on Sunday.
In the first set, Aqeel built up a 2-0 lead. He maintained pressure on Shahzad by hitting forehand, backhand drives to win the set 6-2.
Aqeel was in fine touch and started the second set aggressively to close it out 6-4.
The Karachi-based player continued his dominance in the third set to seal it 6-2 and clinch the title.
Ushna Suhail won the ladies singles title after beating Mahin Aftab 7-6(4), 6-3 in the final.
Abdal Haider won the juniors Under-18 singles title, defeating Aman Attique in a three-set thriller 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
In the men’s doubles final, Mohammad Abid and Usman Rafique overpowered Shahzad Khan and Yasir Khan after a tough battle 7-5, 7-6(0).
