‘Railway station to be connected with metro train station’

The Punjab government has decided to connect Lahore Railway Station with the under-construction Orange Line Metro train station. 

This was revealed during a weekly progress review meeting of steering committee of the project, which was chaired by Commissioner Abdullah Sunbal on Wednesday. The officials said it was decided that the railway station will be connected with the Orange Line Metro train’s Bohar Wala Chowk Station through a 40-feet elevated walkway for pedestrians. 

The decision was taken to facilitate intercity passengers, the officials maintained. They said other passengers and citizens could also avail the facility of the proposed track and will be able to go from one point to the other without actually walking. 

They said the meeting was told that construction of an underground passage was also being planned for connecting the Anarkali Station of the Orange Line Metro train with MAO College station of the Lahore Metro Bus, the Green Line. Walkers will be able to ride either mode of transport at this point. Nespak General Manager Salman Hafeez told the meeting that about 57 per cent civil work of the project had been completed so far. Maximum percentage of work, 71 percent, has been completed along package one of the project, from Dera Gujjaran to Chouburji. The meeting was informed that gray structure of 11 elevated station of the train being constructed along package one which will be handed over to CR-NORINCO by January 31 for carrying out electrical and mechanical works which will be completed within 127 days by the end of June.
