UVAS book fair opens

A two-day book fair organised by the central library of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) started at the varsity’s city campus here on Tuesday.

As many as 13 stalls have been set up at the fair where the book sellers and publishers have put on display thousands of books on variety of topics including livestock, literature, IT and social sciences while books stock on relevant fields of veterinary sciences like Anatomy & Histology, Animal Nutrition, Clinical Medicine & Surgery, Dairy Technology, Public Health, Fisheries Aquaculture, Food Sciences, Human Nutrition, Livestock Production, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pathology, Poultry Production, Wildlife and Ecology, Biochemistry Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Science, Leather & Fiber Technology, Statistics & Computer Science, Environmental Science and Policy Management are also available at the book fair.

UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated the book fair and visited many stalls. He said the book fair was aimed to promote book reading among students, researchers and teachers. He added books didn’t lose their significance even in the age of information and communication technologies. He said vision and knowledge one got by reading books, could never be got by reading reviews and summaries on the internet.

UVAS Librarian Muhammad Aslam, Prof Dr Asim Aslam, Ms Abeeda Zia and a large number of students, faculty members and booksellers attended the inaugural ceremony. Prof Pasha appreciated efforts of the organisers, all the library official staff, faculty members and students.

UET extends admission date: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Tuesday extended last date for submission of admission forms for postgraduate admissions up to Dec 13, 2016.  A UET spokesperson said the departmental tests and interviews would be held from Dec 14 to 19.
