During a survey of the repair work on the potholed University Road, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhter, claimed the work would be completed at the earliest since the main corridor had become a site of frequent traffic logs owing to its dilapidated condition.

The cracks on patches from Hasan Square up to Nipa Chowrangi and from NED University up to Safoora Goth would first be filled up, whereas the road would later be repaired. The officials were asked to speed up the pace of repair work, and ensure that construction was carried out round the clock.

Street lights and sewerage system would also be installed along the route, before the construction work was to start.

Visit to KWSB

Addressing media representatives on his visit to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) head office, Akhter said the KWSB would specially cooperate with the local bodies’ representatives to solve the water supply and sewerage issues in the city.

He observed that effective collaboration of concerned organisations would help solve the city’s problems which would also lift the pressure off the government.

The mayor cited Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s instructions issued with respect to enhancing cooperation between organisations and their officials in this regard.

Akhter said the water utility was facing a shortage of resources for which he requested the government to cooperate with him in strengthening it.

“Only the team work of an elected local government and various organisations would be able to solve the city’s problems.”

He said he would soon be sitting in on a briefing of the K-IV and other water projects, and would also address the severe sewerage problem near the Bakhra hotel in district South.

Earlier, KWSB MD Misbahuddin Farid welcomed the city mayor at the water board’s office and informed him that the CM had directed him to extend all possible cooperation to him.
