PESHAWAR: Shaikh Saleemullah, a senior journalist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, breathed his last in Lahore on Tuesday.
Shaikh Saleemullah did journalism for more than four decades in Peshawar and trained a large number of journalists.He remained the news editor of daily “The Khyber Mail” Peshawar which was owned by his family. The paper was founded by Shaikh Sanaullah, who was the pioneer of English journalism in the then NWFP.
When “The Khyber Mail” closed down later, Shaikh Saleemullah worked at some English newspapers such as The Pakistan Observer, Frontier Star and Khyber Mail International.Shaikh Saleemullah was a pro-worker journalist and took part in the struggle for the freedom of the media and better working conditions for the newspapers employees.
He remained the president of the Khyber Union of Journalists and secretary of the Peshawar Press Club. He shifted to Lahore several years ago after retirement.He is survived by his widow, two sons and a daughter.
