Islamabad: Mashal Association, an NGO held its annual fund-raiser in Islamabad. It was a dinner followed by a musical programme which featured amateur singer Muniya Raza from Karachi and the Islamabad based Bakhshi Brothers who have a Coke Studio hit to their name.
Mashal Association was founded in 1987 by Mrs. Shahida Azim, caters to the needs of about nine villages/communities surrounding its welfare complex 'Gosha-e-Mashal at Margalla Town. It has a school for girls up to class ten for which everything including books, uniforms and transport to pick and drop is provided by the NGO.
Gosha-e-Mashal also has a fully functional basic health care unit and a Vocational Center with several departments.
Mrs Shahida Azim briefly described the journey of Mashal. Tallat Azim, Director Communications & Fund raising and Shamoon Hashmi, renowned TV host were the masters of ceremony. Munia Raza sang some well known, popular ‘ghazals’ like ‘Muj sai pehli si mohabat and Dhoondo gai agar mulkon mulkon’. The Bakhshi Brothers were beautifully in sync, with powerful vocals and a treat to listen to.
Amjad Hussain, a renowned artist from Chakwal, donated two landscapes for a silent auction at the fund raiser.
