Abid, police said, told his guards to fire at the robbers and, in the ensuing shootout, both suspects were fatally injured. No one from the family was injured in the shootout.

Weapons and the looted valuables were recovered from the suspects, police said. Their bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for a postmortem.

Once the incident came to light, city police chief Mushtaq Mehar announced a reward of Rs50,000 and a certificate of appreciation for the security guard.
