MULTAN: The Archaeology Department officials have found 67 early Mughal era bronze coins during the repair of a shrine at Nawan Sher near Kabirwala. District Officer Archaeology Ghulam Muhammad said that the copper coins were more than 500 years old. He said that the archaeology officials were busy repairing the shrine of Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed when they found a pot. He said that the Multan city lacked museum, therefore, the coins would be dispatched to Lahore museum for temporary period. The archaeology researchers in Lahore will study the coins and sentences written in Persian language to establish its history, he added. APP adds: Archaeology Department official Ilyas Khan told the agency an around 800- year-old terracotta slab inscribed with Quranic verses, which looked to be the part of some tiles panel, an old fashioned Chiragh made of clay and a human skeleton were also recovered during the repair of the shrine. The diameter of each coin was almost 15mm and thickness 4mm, he added. He said that the shrine stood on a 12-foot-high platform and coins were recovered from the debris inside a room adjacent to the main chamber while other objects and skeleton were dug out at some distance but inside the mausoleum. He said that roof of the mausoleum had collapsed a few centuries ago. He said that the shrine was undergoing conservation at a cost of Rs 17.5 million.
