CHARSADDA: Maulana Matlaul Anwaar, a noted religious scholar and student of Maulana Syed Hussain Ahmed Madani, passed away here on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 96.
Thousands of people attended his Nimaz-i-Janaza led by his son Maulana Asjad Ali Haqqani.Maulana Matlaul Anwaar was laid to rest in his family graveyard in his village Kot Tarnab.
Born in 1920 in Kot Tarnab in Charsadda district in a respected religious family, he obtained his early education from his father Maulana Fazal Ahad, who too was a prominent religious scholar.
Matlaul Anwaar got admission in Darul Uloom Deoband where he received education from several towering intellectual figures in the world of Hadith and Fiqh, including Maulana Syed Hussain Ahmed Madani.
After completing his education, Maulana Matlaul Anwaar taught for a long time at the Darul Uloom Deoband. He continued teaching at his alma mater even after partition of the subcontinent and independence of India and Pakistan. Later, he shifted to Pakistan.
Prominent religious scholars and politicians attended his funeral. Maulana Samiul Haq, head of the Darul Uloom Haqqania and also the JUI-S, was also among the mourners.
