Prisoner dies, warder suspended

LAHORE

A prisoner, who had suffered injuries under mysterious circumstances, died in hospital on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Majid, was jailed in a drugs case registered by Burki police. He received injuries after he fell down in Camp Jail. He was rushed to hospital where he died. Camp Jail SP Asad Waraich has suspended the duty warder over negligence. Further investigations are underway.

Bruised body: A body of a 54-year-old man was found in a plot in the Baghbanpura area on Tuesday.

The man, identified as Fiaz Ahmad, hailed from Mehmood Booti. The passersby spotted his body lying in a plot in Lakhodair and informed police. The body bore marks of bruises, police said. Police suspected he might have died of some poisonous substance. The body has been removed to morgue.

CCPO: CCPO Amin Wainse has said that investigation into Millat Park and Garden Town incidents was in progress and police would arrest the accused in both cases very soon.

He was talking to the MNAs and MPAs at his office on Tuesday. The parliamentarians included MNAs Mehr Ishtiaq and Kiran Dar, and MPAs Mian Marghoob Ahmed, Mian Naseer Ahmed, Rana Tajammul ,Ch Shehbaz Ahmed, Ch Gulzar Ahmed, Irum Hassan Bajwa, Salma Shaheen Butt, Zarqa Naseem, Nighat Sheikh, Lubna Faisal, Kanwal Nauman and Nasreen Nawaz. DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf and DIG Investigation Sultan Chaudhary were also present.

The CCPO said that police was pursuing the case with different angles to arrest the culprits behind the Millat Park incident.

He said that police would give prize money worth Rs 1 million to the person who would provide useful information regarding Millat Park case while Rs 0.5 million would be given for information in Garden Town incident. He said that the name of informers would be kept secret. 

Amin Wainse said that police were fully committed to curb the crimes besides providing complete protection to the life and properties of the people of Lahore. POs: Sadr Division investigation police have arrested three proclaimed offenders (POs) involved in triple murder.

The arrested POs were identified as Shafiq, Husnain amd Haneef. They had murdered one Amanat Ali and his sons Rizwan and Adnan in August 2016. 

The DIG investigation has announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the police team.

accidents: Total 614 road accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service, Rescue 1122, from all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Eleven people were killed and 512 badly injured in the accidents. The injured were shifted to hospitals. However, some 177 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were provided first aid by the emergency medical teams.

Action: City Traffic Police took action against 290,788 vehicles with unprescribed number plates or no number plates during the current year.

The chef traffic officer directed the sector in charges and wardens to ensure implementation of traffic laws and take action against wrong parking and encroachments as well.
