‘Governor out of ICU but yet to fully recuperate’
The newly appointed governor of Sindh, Justice (retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, who was hospitalised on Sunday after suffering from a chest infection and breathing problems, is recuperating and stated to be in a stable condition.
According to a spokesman for the Governor House, Justice Siddiqui was shifted to a private room from the Intensive Care Unit of the private hospital on Tuesday. Doctors were, however, yet to decide on when the governor should be discharged, he said.
Justice Zaman replaced Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan last week. The decision to replace Khan, who served as governor about 14 years, was said to have been made at a recent meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
After which, the Presidency issued a notification of Justice Siddiqui’s appointment as governor last Wednesday.
He had been the chief justice of Pakistan from July 1999 till December 2005. During military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s rule, he had refused to take the oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order. In 2008 he ran as a presidential candidate from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
