Governor, corps commander vow to carry on Karachi operation

British deputy high commissioner also meets Ebad; says investors greatly

encouraged by restoration of peace in the country, including Sindh

The Sindh governor and the corps commander Karachi met on Friday and reiterated their resolve to carry on the crackdown against terrorists and other criminals in Karachi.

Both Dr Ishratul Ebad and Lt General Naveed Mukhtar during their meeting at the Governor’s House discussed the law and order situation in the province, particularly the operation in Karachi

The governor said on the occasion that Rangers and other law-enforcement agencies had rendered numerous sacrifices for ensuring peace and restoration of law and order in the province and their sacrifices would not be allowed to go in vain.

The meeting between governor and corps commander was held a day after the provincial apex committee at the Chief Minister’s House. The apex committee meeting was chaired by the chief minister and attended among other senior officials by the governor and the corps commander.

The governor, in a meeting with British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi Belinda Lewis, said a prospering and peaceful Pakistan was in the greater interest of the region and rest of the world.

He said the situation in the country was stabilising because of the Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He added that foreign investment in the country would prove to be an effective factor in combating the menace of terrorism.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would ensure the growth of the Pakistani economy as under the scheme, development project costing $46 billion were being undertaken and of this investment, $34 billion were being spent on energy projects alone to do. He said that efforts were under way to overcome the energy crisis in the country so that industrial activities in Pakistan could continue without any hindrance.

He appreciated the keen interest shown by prospective British business community to invest in Pakistan and the government would provide all required facilities and assistance to foreign investors.

In this regard, the recent establishment of the British Business Centre was an important step as it would provide all required information to prospective foreign businessmen to launch their businesses and industries in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the British deputy high commissioner said Britain-Pakistan relations spanned over the last several decades and with passage of time, these bilateral relations were becoming stronger.

She said the UK would provide all sort of assistance for development works and programmes for promoting education in Pakistan.

She said Britain had always acknowledged professional excellence shown by the Pakistan Army.

She commended the restoration of peace in the entire country including Sindh as because of the improvement in the law and order situation, business community from around the world including that of the UK was willing to invest in Pakistan. She said foreign investment would help in achieving poverty alleviation and ending unemployment in Pakistan.
