Shahbaz stresses unity to root out terrorism

Says Rs173b being spent on development of South Punjab

LAHORE

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said terrorism and extremism are the worst enemy of Pakistan and there is a need for unity and harmony for the elimination of this menace. 

The CM expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Muslim League-N on Wednesday. He said eradication of terrorism is essential for making Pakistan the country of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal in the real sense. He said the need for national solidarity and unity is more than ever and there is no room for mutual differences after the heartrending incident in Quetta. He said that terrorism will have to be rooted out with the force of unity. Meanwhile, MNA from Dera Ghazi Khan Sardar Awais Leghari met the CM. Matters regarding ongoing development projects worth billions of rupees for the welfare of people of south Punjab and setting up of Fort Monroe Welfare City were discussed in the meeting. Talking to Sardar Awais Leghari, Shahbaz Sharif said progress and prosperity of people of south Punjab is very dear to him and Pakistan Muslim League-N government has always given priority to uplift of south Punjab and prosperity of the people of this region.

He said Rs173 billion is being spent on the development of south Punjab during the current financial year and a number of megaprojects are being executed expeditiously. He said 138-kilometre long roads for the benefit of the people of tribal areas of DG Khan and Rajanpur are being constructed while metro bus project for the provision of modern transport facilities of international standard in Multan, the biggest city of south Punjab, is nearing completion. 

Shahbaz Sharif said that this project costing billions of rupees will soon be inaugurated. He said metro bus project is a splendid gift for the people of south Punjab as modern, speedy and economical transport facility will become available to the people of Multan and south Punjab through metro buses.

He said that potable water is the right of every citizen and a project worth billions of rupees has been started for the supply of clean drinking water to the people of south Punjab. He said more than 80 modern water filtration plants have been installed in five Tehsils of south Punjab. He said Fort Monroe Development Authority has been set up to make Fort Monroe a tourist spot in south Punjab and this step will result in promotion of tourism as well as development of the area. The CM said the Punjab government has taken effective measures for the development of public health sector. He said modern treatment facilities have become available to the masses due to setting up of a state-of-the-art hospital in Muzaffargarh. Member National Assembly Awais Leghari appreciated the vision of the CM with regard to uplift and prosperity of south Punjab and said that the Punjab government led by the CM has taken revolutionary steps for the development of this region.
